American Honda has recently confirmed the relaunch of its popular Africa Twin series, which has undergone enhancements for the upcoming year. The 2024 edition of the Honda Africa Twin will offer consumers a choice among four different versions: the Africa Twin geared towards off-road adventures and the Adventure Sports ES designed more for on-road experiences, each available with a manual transmission or Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) variant. The DCT models come equipped with features such as automatic gear shifts and the flexibility to utilize paddle shifters, along with four distinct modes: Drive, Sport 1, Sport 2, and Sport 3.
Brandon Wilson, the Racing and Experiential Marketing manager at American Honda, expressed enthusiasm about introducing the 2024 platform update for the iconic Africa Twin, a key model in Honda’s adventure lineup. He highlighted Honda’s dedication to the adventure segment, evident through the recent launch of the midsize Transalp and the upgraded Africa Twin. This commitment underscores Honda’s focus on providing high-performance machines that cater to the adventurous spirit of enthusiasts who seek exploration opportunities in the great outdoors. The introduction of the revamped Africa Twin aligns with Honda’s strategic goal of offering a diverse range of capable motorcycles that inspire riders to embark on thrilling journeys and push the boundaries of adventure riding.
Both the Honda Africa Twin and Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES are powered by a liquid-cooled 1,083 Unicam SOHC parallel-Twin with 4 valves per cylinder and 270-degree crank mated to a 6-speed gearbox and chain final drive. The engine’s intake/exhaust has been redesigned, and compression has been increased to 10.5:1.
The two bikes are equipped with cruise control and throttle-by-wire technology that includes seven levels of Honda Selectable Torque Control. They offer four power delivery modes known as Tour, Urban, Gravel, and also allow user-programmable settings. In addition to these features, the Africa Twins come with a new windscreen with five adjustable positions, tubeless tires, and an updated fairing design. Notably, the Adventure Sports ES model includes heated grips for added comfort during rides.
In terms of braking capability, both bikes feature consistent stopping power. They are equipped with dual 4-piston calipers that grab onto 310mm front discs, along with a 2-piston caliper paired with a 256mm disc in the rear. Additionally, both models come with switchable cornering ABS, offering two selectable modes: on-road and off-road. This safety feature enhances the bikes’ ability to maintain stability
For suspension, the Africa Twin still has a 45mm inverted telescopic fork and Pro-Link mono-shock, but travel has been reduced to 8.0 inches in front and 8.7 in the back (down from 9.1/8.7, front/rear on the 2022 Africa Twin and Adventure Sports ES). The seat height remains at 34.3 inches for the standard position, with a low position of 33.5 inches. The Africa Twin still rides on 21-inch/18-inch front/rear wheels, and with its 5-gallon tank full, it has a wet weight of 510 lb or 535 lb for DCT.
The Adventure Sports ES also has a 45mm inverted telescopic fork and Pro-Link mono-shock, both now with electronic adjustment offering five suspension damper settings: hard, medium, soft, and off-road, as well as a customizable “user” setting. Travel has been reduced to 7.3 inches/7.9 inches, front/back. Seat height has also been lowered to 33.7 inches for the standard position and 32.9 inches for the low position. The Adventure Sports ES has a new 19-inch front wheel (still 18 inches in the rear), a 6.6-gallon tank, and a wet weight of 535 lb or 559 lb for DCT.
The Africa Twins showcase a 6.5-inch touch-panel LCD multi-information dashboard that offers users three different display choices. This dashboard is designed to seamlessly integrate with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth technologies, enhancing the connectivity and functionality of the motorcycle.
Price for the 2024 Africa Twin starts at P950,000.
